The Danes have done it again. They have made yet another positive mark on the world, in the fight against climate change. Apparently hosting the big climate change event of the year was not enough for them and that is where the Green Lighthouse comes in.

The new Green Lighthouse building has just been unveiled at the University of Copenhagen. Designed by Christensen & Co. Architect, this building will be the new student services center and is to act as a “lighthouse” of sustainable building options during the COP-15 event. This building was constructed in a cylindrical shape, with adjustable façade louvers that allows light to bend around the building, following the path of the sun. Because of this effect, it has also been called “The Sundial”. Architect of the Green Lighthouse, Michael Christensen, said “if you know how to read the sun’s position in the sky, you’ll be able to tell the time from the shadow of the building”.
This building isn’t just a huge time-telling structure, however. Solar energy and heat pumps provide the electricity and heating for the building. Large, insulated windows allow more natural light into the building, thus diminishing the need for artificial sources. And best of all, it reduces CO2 emissions!
