After the mass stranding in New Zealand, which resulted in the deaths of nearly 60 whales on a beach on the country’s North Island, the annual mass slaughter of pilot whales is taking place in the autonomous province of the Faroe Islands, part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
It seems that pilot whales – which like killer whales are actually part of the dolphin family, despite their closer resemblance to whales – just cannot get a break.
Thankfully, they have the former blonde bombshell and French film star Brigitte Bardot to plead their case.
The Independent reports:
Brigitte Bardot, the actress turned animal rights campaigner, joined the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in condemning the killings and writing to Queen Margrethe II of Denmark calling for the killings to be halted.
Bardot, a long-time activist for animal rights, has also recently spoken out against bullfighting in Spain and seal hunting in Canada.
From an article from contactmusic.com:
Now her attention has turned to the killing of pilot whales in the Danish-held Faroe Islands – she is outraged over the annual cull of the marine creatures which sees them driven to shore and killed with knives.
